Prenatal Assessment of Environmental Risk
Protect pregnant women from harmful chemicals
The Prenatal Assessment of Environmental Risk (PAER) is an essential tool for providers and pregnant women. It’s a simple, 5-minute quiz that assesses a pregnant woman’s risk of having contact with chemicals that could be harmful for her baby — like BPA, lead, and pesticides. Clinic staff can easily integrate the assessment into their office workflow and providers can discuss the results with their patients.
Most pregnant women have contact with over 40 harmful chemicals. PAER gives women — and their doctors — guidance on how to protect themselves.
Pregnant patients are often worried and confused about the risks of environmental exposure. Help them understand the facts — so they can take the right steps to protect themselves." — Dr. X
Who made the assessment?
We’re a partnership of experts in both pregnancy and environmental health from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (PEHSU). Our team is dedicated to reducing environmental exposure during pregnancy — and to giving providers the tools they need to discuss environmental exposure with pregnant patients.
